It would be nice to have a widget that shows the used protocols eg http vs https. One can possibly already find it out by using a segment but it would be good to have a widget for it. Especially once we become more generic and once we might also track all sort of other protocols.

On top it might be nice to know whether eg tls or ssl was used over HTTP but this would need to be enabled server side so it gets written eg into the apache logs and then we'd need to import it via log importer with a custom regex.

Here is the solution

Use the plugin http://plugins.piwik.org/CustomDimensions and define an extraction rule to extract the protocol from the URL. Only creating this issue so users who want to have such a feature can find it.
