When building an application or a website, it's very valuable to know the number of active users in the last N days, in particular:

  • 1 Day Active Users,
  • 7 Day Active Users,
  • 14 Day Active Users,
  • 30 Day Active Users

These metrics are provided by Google Analytics: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/reporting/core/dimsmets#view=detail&group=user&jump=ga_1dayusers

eg. for 1 day active users, the metric means:

Total number of 1-day active users for each day in the requested time period. [..] For the given date the returned value will be the total unique users for the 1 day period ending on the given date.

or for 30 day active users:

Total number of 30-day active users for each day in the requested time period. [..] For the given date the returned value will be the total unique users for the 30 day period ending on the given date.

Note; we actually already track that, as "Unique Visitors" which is very similar.
If people use "User ID" feature: https://matomo.org/guide/reports/user-ids/
then we also report the number of users.
Maybe we could rename "Users" to "Active Users" to give it more visibility & Clarity?
