Hello, there seems to be an aggravation, noticed in Piwik v2.8.1:
Visitor log doesn't show visitor's provider if it comes with an IPv6 adress, pls notice attached screenshot (label "unbekannt" ) .
Settings: GeoIP(PECL) is working with Maxmind's 'GeoLite City', visitor's privacy is set as shown in screenshot.

Pls look at #3581 and #4391 too, it has been working with Piwik v2.0.

Would it show something different in previous versions? Are you sure this is not just some IP that can't be resolved to providers?

Ok, I did check whole last day by hand, there are only few different IPv6 adresses:
Only 'Deutsche Telekom' and 'Swisscom' have been resolved if coming with IPv6, so it seems to be working for this two providers!? All the others cannot be resolved??? I am really unsure...

Is it possible to check the database which underlies the Piwik provider resolving or is it done on-the-fly by DNS request?

@mygithuber By default it is done on the fly using reverse DNS request using the PHP function: gethostbyaddr http://php.net/gethostbyaddr
You can also setup Piwik to get the organisation name as Provider, see in this faq: http://piwik.org/faq/how-to/faq_180/
