Personally I don't think it is something we should add to Piwik by default, but this could be an option for users who would like to compare Piwik and GA.

Here is a short quote from GA FAQ:

Time-based expiry (including end of day):
After 30 minutes of inactivity (default Piwik setting)
At midnight (the topic of this ticket)
Campaign change: (see #2624)
If a user arrives via one campaign, leaves, and then comes back via a different campaign.

Idea:
Add a setting to Piwik to be able to force new visit after midnight (using site's timezone that will be cached in tracker's cache).

Thanks for the suggestion, moved to 2.11.0!

GA does it by default. I'm not sure what the implications are if we also make it the default, besides creating ~ 1-5% more visits?

Can be even more visits. On one of my private sites I have about 8% visits near midnight. It depends on the type of website and users' activity.

Maybe we should update this faq and add information about creating new visit after changing campain and creating new visit after midnight (the reasons why there are less visits in Piwik)?

Except matching GA numbers, how is that good to force new visits at midnight? This is just fake numbers right?

This particular user visited site in both days. Now we "assign" such users to the next day and it's also incorrect. Making this same as in GA has more pros than cons for me.

Do we actually need a setting for this? Would just implement it like this. Settings should be avoided if possible.
