As part of administrating a Piwik instance, it can sometimes be useful to:

  • Migrate website data from one Piwik instance to another
    • eg. useful when a website is getting too big and is moved to its own Piwik server, or also when a website changes owner and new owner wants to have data moved to her own Piwik server
  • Migrate one website data into another website
    • eg. from forum thread I have two site ID's in the back office for one site. [...] Is it possible to merge both site ID's for a continuing reporting?

We should provide an easy solution to this frequently occurring issue.

For example a new plugin offering a console command that would let anyone migrate Piwik website data to another Piwik server and/or another website.

Would it also be possible to split data from two websites, that was tracked using one SiteID?

Actually there was already an issue for it: #1879

@RMastop splitting data from one website into two websites is out of scope for this issue (here we only migrate one website at a time)

FYI we have released a new plugin which lets you migrate one website from one Matomo instance to another. Get it for free at http://plugins.matomo.org/Migration
