Current behavior:
Piwik updates time spent on page (visit_total_time) after next page refresh. It's not a perfect solution for real time tracking and for single page apps.

Proposed change:
Ping Piwik every x seconds (lets start from 10 secs and then increase the interval to max 1 min, because the goal is to avoid redundant traffic on servers) and update visit_total_time.

In addition: there's no possibility to update time_spent_ref_action in log_link_visit_action table, because there's information about time spent on previous page.

Yeah, this is already a requested feature.. there are several other tickets about this, including #2041 and more recently #5208
