As a Piwik user with 100 000 pageviews a day I do my upgrades by hands and not every time a new version sees the day.

It's really important to know if the upgrade will modify the data (as it did with 2.0) since it will have an impact on my 10 GB database and on how long Piwik will be set to "record_statistics = 0".

So can you please always in the beginning of release announcement write something like:

"This release doesn't modify the database and doesn't contain security related code. This is a bugfix and new features release only."

And if it's not the case you know what to write... ;)

In 7066721: refs #5237 Add note to release manager to mention the major upgrade in changelog

Thanks for suggestion. In general we notify in the changelog when the release contains DB upgrades.

it's much more often that new piwik versions do not contain DB upgrades. So I will try remember always noting it in changelog when there is a major DB upgrade.

Even if it doesn't contains DB upgrades, please mention it!

Always write "This upgrade "contains/doesn't contains" security fix and "contains/doesn't contains" DB upgrades.

So no "implicit" values. ;)

Communication is a key to success!
