A user usually changes the language only once if at all (as we try to detect correct language).

It would make sense to move the language selector for logged in users to User settings or any other place. This reduces the complexity of the UI. For anonymous users we still display the selector in the top menu which is useful especially for demo.piwik.org but also in general.

"A user usually changes the language only once"
=> yes this is right of course!

But if you are non english language user, its very handy to have the selector available on the top so you can switch to english before making a screenshot for this bug tracker :-)

That's actually a good point. On the other side we try to use the same language as the user's browser language. I'll have some more thoughts later.

Maybe it could also be helpful to let the superuser define a default language, that would be used as a default for new users and maybe guests

In 2f7d4c5: refs #4899 move language selector to user settings for logged in users, still visible for anonymous users + during install

@SteveG there is the config setting default_language that can be set to the default language used if language detection does not find particular language.

Nice work guys! Keep the feedback coming. This was fixed in @tsteur last commit.
