We currently report OS and browsers and resolutions... but we do not simply report the number of visits from mobile VS desktop environment

  • We should build this ideally based as a view of either the OS or Browser, rather than requiring a new field in the log_visit table.
  • There would be a new API method, UserSettings.getMobile or something similar?
    • The metric would also appear in API.get function and be available in the PDF/HTML reports with graph.
  • Also we could create maybe a new segment isMobile for use in segmentation https://piwik.org/docs/analytics-api/segmentation/

(In [6326]) Fixes #2895, #3133, renamed existing report getBrowser to getBrowserVersion, added 3 new reports, getBrowser (browser w/o version), getOSFamily and getDeviceType.

  • Modified MetadataCallbackReplace & ColumnCallbackReplace so extra columns could be passed to the callback, w/o being replaced.
  • Modified UserAgentParser.php to provide operating system family extraction functionality.

  • segment deviceType==desktop / mobile would be really nice to have
  • Because this report (Desktop VS MObile) is more useful to see than "Screen types" coul you please display the "Device type" report by default in the User Settings report, and mark the "Screen type" as related?
    • also Device type widget could appear before the other one in the list
