Current behavior

Matomo lets you compare 2 or more segments together, or different time periods, or even both at the same time: https://matomo.org/blog/2019/10/date-and-segment-comparison-feature/

This is very powerful and important capability. And currently when you hover on the table, here is what it shows:

Reproduced here

As you can see, on hover it says the % the value represents, and it shows on the first row the % change in between the periods being compared:

Then there is even a tooltip that explains where the numbers come from and clarifies any confusion:

The feature request

Show the grey text for "Conversions" columns and few other columns

What would be awesome is to get the same information for the "Conversions" columns.

  • The same grey text with % relative value
  • The same grey text with the % change of this % VS last week (in bracket)
  • On hover the tooltip with the explanation about where data is from

Scope: which columns (metrics) does this apply to

This grey text+tooltip would be implemented:

  • in all "Goal X Conversions" columns across all reports.
  • also implemented in all "Goal X Revenue" columns across all reports <- but it can be done later in a separate issue if it's not trivial
  • and implemented for "Ecommerce orders" and ecommerce product "Quantity" and "Product revenue"
  • The grey text is NOT implemented in Conversion rates column or any other column that are ratio or % (as it wouldn't make sense to show grey text for these columns)

Why it's important

Looking at "conversions" numbers is useful in some cases, but often we also want to know at the same time how much % this represents. So having this information displayed will answer a lot of questions and save people time and keep them focused on their jobs. (otherwise they may need to do work to understand the relative value of each row etc.)

Related to https://github.com/matomo-org/matomo/issues/6182 and https://github.com/matomo-org/matomo/issues/15515 - but this issue here is a small step that provides good value already

Note that i created the issue with the scope of comparisons, but actually the same limitation occurs when not using comparison, for example here: https://web.innocraft.cloud/index.php?module=CoreHome&action=index&idSite=12&period=month&date=today#?period=week&date=2022-09-18&idSite=12&category=Goals_Goals&subcategory=9

we can see that there is no grey text shown for the conversion column.
So it would be very helpful to have this grey text shown for the "$Goal Conversions" column (also when not in comparison mode) here:

but we would rather have it displayed as described in this issue.

Hi @mattab, thanks for taking the time to describe this enhancement in detail, it sounds like a valuable addition! :+1: I've assigned this issue for prioritization by our product team
