Setup

  • Matomo 3.13.3
  • PHP 7.3.11-1~deb10u1

Issue
I have set up the automatic updating of the GeoIP database using GeoLite2-City. As we know from #15308 this no longer works. That's fine - no worries until this is resolved, however:

  1. How to disable automatic updating?
    Is it just removing the download link? If that is true Matomo should probably stop informing about the next update which it still does and instead say e.g. "No updates to your GeoIP database will be done".
    If this is not true when I have no clue how to disable automatic updating. The interface does not provide any apparent direct means to disable. You can just choose monthly or weekly as an updating frequency. There is no option to disable.
  2. This is probably a separate issue: Even if I tick monthly (probably also true for weekly) updates Matomo checks every hour for updates when doing the archive cron even though it informs me that the last update was performed a day before. This is spamming my e-mail inbox in case of failiure. It will be great if Matomo checks for the last update date and backs down for a week or a month respectively.

How to disable automatic updating?

Removing the download link luckily does the trick. However the user interface can still be enhanced as suggested or in another way that will help users.
