Average Page Depth is a very powerful feature that allows marketers and website owners in general understand how their goals and events convert. This metric is one of the few (if not the only) that can show data on how much and what kind of effort is required to convert a user.

APD shows percentage of users converted for a given page depth (i.e. 20% on page 1, 30% on page 2, 40% on page 3 and 10% on pages 4+).

This data would vary greatly between different types of conversions:

  • Email signups give most significant conversions if the user is asked on the first page they visit the website and drop off after that.
  • Purchases, on the other hand (especially high-value) are non-impulsive actions that require users to get familiar with the site and content, thus converting at later/greater page depth.

The above feature would help Piwik's users understand how their visitors interact with their features, products etc. and make adjustments that could potentially increase their conversions dramatically.

Google Analytics has this feature implemented and it's fairly easy to use (although I know Piwik can do much better):

  1. Get to “Event Label” screen.
  2. Choose “Page Depth” as “Secondary dimension”.

This would be actually quite useful. Could be even developed in a new plugin I'd say. Especially in Piwik 3 that makes it easy to add new reports to existing pages. I presume it would be kind of similar to the Visitor => Engagements report.

When going to the goal detail page, you can select eg "Visits to conversion" and "Days to conversion". I think it would be the same just instead showing "Pageviews to conversion"?

It shouldn't be too hard to add this info.
